SEO Strategy: Editing Your Content

Author: Russell Barnstein

In order for SEO content to be considered accurate and well written, it needs to pass the review of an editor. Even the best professional writers do not always have excellent editing skills, and when judging one's own work it becomes impossible to produce an unbiased and honestly edited piece. However, if you don't have an editor available or simply can't afford one, there is one step that you can take to ensure that your SEO strategy includes a self-editing process that will assure high quality web content that is compelling to both consumers and search engines.

Nearly every writer utilizes some type of software that analyzes spelling, grammar, syntax, and so on. While these programs can be extremely useful, they should never be relied upon exclusively. This is because regardless of what type of program you use, no software can detect all types of mistakes- even simple ones- and there are no programs that can check for natural human readability. Consider the following sentences:

I'm going to eat hot dog for lunch. This ways I can save times on my way back to work. If I get done early, I will tries to call you. I'll be certain to get a reception from the clerk and turn it in before I reviewed my SEO strategy.

Obviously, there are serious errors in each of these sentences. The above sentences were reviewed using the spelling and grammar checking tool in MS Word 2007 Enterprise. The check revealed zero issues with the sentences. This is because the program is slightly too literal to catch these types of mistakes. Software programs such as this used exclusively for editing purposes is not an effective way to create an SEO strategy that features genuinely high quality SEO, SEM, or SMM content.

The ONLY way to be certain that your work is 100% accurate every time is to read every single word in every sentence from start to finish. Do not skim through your work- read it as if you are a consumer who has never seen this information before. This process takes time, and that is precisely why many good writers become mediocre- because they do not take the time to read and re-read every word they write.

Even if editing programs could uncover every mistake in your writing that still wouldn't necessarily mean that your writing is good just because there are no items underlined in green or red. An exceptional SEO strategy calls for content that is valuable in the sense that it has good flow, a clear message, and offers something that the reader desires. Sentences should be concise, paragraphs well-structured and focused, and the style should be sustained throughout the piece.

Because SEO strategies depend upon high quality content, your success on the web depends upon your editing practices. If you can't get an independent third party to edit your work, then a thorough review of each line of your SEO content is required in order to ensure that the information you put out there reflects your business philosophies.

Ultimately, your services or products will only look as good as the content that sells it.
